Euthanasia and Cremation
As pet owners, we understand what it is like to lose a pet. Our pets are members of our family and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Although many prefer to bury their companion animals, some choose cremation as an acceptable alternative. Our caring staff is available to guide you through the cremation planning process…answering questions, making arrangements, and ensuring your beloved pet receives a dignified disposition.

“Teaching a child not to step on a caterpillar is as valuable to the child as it is to the caterpillar…” Bradley Miller Education is a large component of The Washington County Humane Society’s mission. Our Humane Educator goes into schools, after-school programs and day care centers teaching children about responsible pet care, bite prevention, and the role of the Humane Society in their community. Scout and church groups visit the shelter for tours and presentations as well. Approximately 1500 school-age children benefit from these programs annually.

It is the goal of WCHS to provide training programs that result in happy, confident and obedient dogs as well as happy, confident and satisfied owners. We believe that our relationships with dogs should be achieved through comprehensive obedience training and owner education. We further believe that it is important to provide training classes in a positive environment to enable dogs to become safe, well-behaved, and valued family members. Dogs that have more serious behavior concerns requiring specific behavior correction may be referred to a behavior specialist.

As human life encroaches more and more upon wildlife environments and habitats, it is inevitable that encounters with our wild neighbors increase. WCHS strongly believes that we need to be responsible stewards of our environment, and the animals and birds we share it with. In many cases, it is preferable to leave wildlife alone…so often, it is our unintentional interference that causes problems for wildlife.
