Licensing Your Pet

WCHS encourages all pet owners to purchase a dog or cat license for each of their pets. As a responsible pet owner, it is your duty to license your pet according to the laws and requirements of the state of Wisconsin and the municipality you live in. Animal licensing is required by state law for all dogs, however owners should check with their municipality for all cat licensing requirements.

One of the most compelling reasons to register your pet with the county is that if your pet gets lost, a license on your dog or cat’s collar is the fastest way to reunite you and your pet.

WCHS does have the ability to issue and renew licensing for all Washington County municipalities excluding the Town of Farmington. Please check with your local municipality for your pet limit amounts. Please note that there is a $5.50 processing fee when purchasing your license through the shelter.
